Sensory Work

This work is all about sensory exploration and accessibility. 

In OPEN CLOSED (which was an exhibition I collaborated on with another artist, Sahai Carpenter) we used sound, scent, motion, and touch in our art to expand the sensory experience. And we wanted to make people think about about identity, embodiment, and community.

After the exhibition, I picked one piece to work on elevating. The piece I chose was the chess board, which has an Octavia Butler quote laser etched into the acrylic. The pieces are made of wax and scented like teak and oudwood. The labyrinth box was originally made for something else but I ended up putting the chess set inside of it and I liked how they complimented eachother.
